I’ve recently been talking about the excellent Toastabags, plus giving out a few quick and easy recipes brought to you by food writers and authors of The Jewish Princess, Georgie Tarn and Tracey Fine. But I wanted to share with you a benefit I hadn’t previously thought of.
Being such a fan of this product I mentioned it to my sister, who told me she had recently started using them herself but for a different reason. Being a coeliac (allergic to gluten) she can’t use the family toaster for her gluten free bread (or anyone’s toaster when staying away from home), because of the risk of getting gluten from the crumbs already in the toaster. Problem solved with the Toastabag. Previously she had to use a tray covered in tin foil under the grill simply to have a piece of toast in the morning. Now she uses the Toastabags in the toaster and takes it away with her! So much for telling my sister about Toastabags (older sisters always know best!)
To see the benefits of them yourselves check out the following great recipes and see them in action on our site and YouTube
Getting your kids to eat something that’s good for them can be tricky. Indeed getting them to eat anything at all can be difficult. It’s bad enough when they are still trying out new tastes, but once they’re at school and getting their own ideas about when and what they should eat it’s even worse. They are renowned for snacking, so what better way to get something nutritious in them by taking advantage of this.
In fact, with this Toastabag recipe you may even be able to get them to eat something before they leave the house for school. The advice always given is to involve your child in the process of making the food and these Wallace & Gromit Toastabags will appeal to them so much it will make them do just that – with a stamp included in the pack, and super easy to use, older children may even start to make their own breakfast!
So using ingredients that many of them love (but are secretly actually good for them), why not try out the Peanut Butter & Banana Back To School Sandwich Recipe. Brought to you by Food Writers Georgie Tarn and Tracey Fine, the authors of The Jewish Princess Cookbook, Having Your Cake and Eating It, The Jewish Princess Feasts & Festivals with Family and Friends and the 'Must Have' lifestyle guide The Jewish Princess Guide to Fabuosity. They are regular food columnists for the Jewish Chronicle and regularly appear on UKTV Food, Market Kitchen and The UK Kitchen.
If you like this you should also check out their brilliantly simple and tasty Italian Stuff-a-Your-Face Sandwich Recipe and Asian Chicken Sandwich Recipe. Remember this isn’t only for the kids… I hadn’t tried the banana and peanut butter combination myself before this, but I’m very surprised and happy to say that I’m now hooked!
Butter (about a teaspoon) Banana (sliced) Smooth Peanut Butter 2 thin slices of bread
You don’t have to limit yourself to either white or brown bread – why not get the best of both by mixing them and have one of each? Start by melting the butter in a pan, add the banana and fry until all the banana is golden brown. If your kid insists(!) remove the crusts and get them involved by pressing down with the stamps onto the bread to imprint with the Wallace & Gromit pictures.
Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread, followed by the golden banana and press down firmly on the sandwich before putting into the Toastabag. Once in your toaster it should take around 3 minutes depending on the individual toaster. Allow to cool.
Brilliant for kids to have for a quick breakfast or after school snack perhaps. Very nutritious too - the banana is full of potassium, so giving them lots of energy to keep them going long after breakfast. It will get some fruit in them, plus the peanut butter provides some fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Following on from my earlier write up about the brilliant Toastabags, I’ve got another fantastic recipe brought to you by Georgie and Tracey, authors of The Jewish Princess Cookbook. Like them you too can make use of this Dragons’ Den featured product which is ideal for busy people needing quick food! They are super efficient and leave no mess… not even crumbs in your toaster!
Very economical because they can be used over and over again (the Original Toastabag can be reused up to 300 times and the Gold and Wallace & Gromit Toastabags can be reused 100 times), plus being so easy means you can get the whole family involved. For a taste of Italy see my previous article which went through how to make an Italian Stuff-a-Your-Face Sandwich, but if it’s a taste of Asia you want try this delicious Asian Chicken Sandwich.
What ingredients you will need:
Chicken (ready cooked) Mayonnaise Ginger (grated) Chili (diced) Spring Onion (chopped) Salt & Black Pepper 2 thin slices of bread
Don’t limit yourself to either white or brown bread – why not get the best of both by mixing them and have one of each? The great thing about these sandwiches is that you can use quantities according to your tastes, so adapt the ingredients if needed – if you love spicy food use a generous amount of chili and spring onion for example. You can use about half a chicken breast per sandwich, which would give you a generous portion. Mix in a bowl the chopped chicken, chili (remember don’t use too much if you don’t want it too spicy), finely chopped spring onion, grated ginger, some salt & pepper to taste and enough mayonnaise to coat the mixture. Press firmly down on the sandwich before putting into the Toastabag and once in your toaster it should take around 3 minutes depending on the individual toaster. Allow to cool and enjoy.
Not only does this sandwich have lovely colours and wonderful fresh smell, but it’s very good for you. The ginger is known for it’s ability to help support a healthy cardiovascular system, reduce nausea and upset stomach and can reduce the symptoms of colds and allergies! Eating chili is likewise very beneficial as a natural anti-inflamatory and will help increase your circulation. What more could you ask for? A tasty sandwich that is quick to make, leaves no mess and is good for you! Next I’ll tackle how to get your kids to eat something for breakfast – or any meal!
Getting bored of your usual snacks? Need an easy way to get your kids to eat some breakfast that isn’t full of sugar? Want to be able to make a quick and nutritious snack? If you haven’t already tried them, Toastabags are the solution to these and many other food problems.
Toasted sandwiches are great for a bit of variety (and lets face it they do taste nicer when toasted) but they can be messy, often meaning cleaning out a sandwich toaster when done – not very quick or easy. With Toastabags this isn’t a problem because they fit into your toaster… you don’t even get any of the crumbs that you do when making toast!
This brilliant invention came to fame when featured on Dragons’ Den and are so popular because they are quick – about 3 minutes, clean – no mess in your toaster or toaster oven and convenient – simply pop the bag into the toaster and wait.
Not just for sandwiches either – you can use Toastabags to heat up pastries, pizza slices, chicken nuggets & more! They are perfect for kids after school snacks!
Toastabags have been designed primarily for use in variable width slot type toasters. When using a standard non-variable toaster, toasted sandwiches may need to be made with thinner bread & it may be necessary to compress the sandwich after putting it in the bag.
With so many different ideas for recipes I thought you might like to hear some of the best to get you inspired… and who better to tell you than Food Writers Georgie Tarn and Tracey Fine, the authors of The Jewish Princess Cookbook, Having Your Cake and Eating It, The Jewish Princess Feasts & Festivals with Family and Friends and the 'Must Have' lifestyle guide The Jewish Princess Guide to Fabuosity. They are regular food columnists for the Jewish Chronicle and regularly appear on UKTV Food, Market Kitchen and The UK Kitchen. Let’s start with their brilliantly simple and tasty Italian Stuff-a-Your-Face Sandwich Recipe!
What ingredients you will need:
Santini Tomatoes (or similar) Black Olives (chopped) Mozzarella (grated) Fresh Basil (chopped) Green Pesto 2 thin slices of bread
Don’t limit yourself to either white or brown bread – why not get the best of both by mixing them and have one of each? Start by evenly spreading your pesto onto one slice of the bread. A quick trick is to roll your basil and then slice it before thinly sprinkling over the pesto. Add to that the grated mozzarella cheese, which will melt when in the toaster. Add some colour with the black olives and sliced tomatoes.
The olives can be bought pitted so avoiding the need to remove the stones and finish off with some black pepper to give it a bit of a kick. All that’s left to do is press firmly down on the sandwich and pop into the Toastabag. Put it into your toaster for about 3 minutes – remember that every toaster may require slightly different times. Allow to cool and then slice and enjoy!
