When the going gets tough… turn to ‘Velcro® Heavy Duty’

Some jobs around the home, in the garage or garden require products with a lot of strength – for example securing tools, torches, large pictures and so on, holding down rugs/carpets, or for use outside to ensure something is going to be able withstand wet conditions. This is where the Velcro® Heavy Duty Range is perfect… such as Velcro® Heavy Duty Stick On Strips.

Velcro Heavy Duty Stick on StripsThese extra strong weather resistant adhesive strips are really sticky & provide a weather resistant adhesive making them ideal for use Outdoors or in damp / wet conditions. Each pack contains 50mm x 100mm x 2 sets.

Also available is Velcro® Heavy Duty Jumbo Pack Stick On Tape, in white & black. Each pack contains 50mm x 5 metres to cut to size and is perfect for the securing of either temporary or permanent items. It has a 50% stronger closure & adhesive than regular hook & loop and can be used both in & outdoors because of the water resistant adhesive. So strong it will hold up to 7kg per 50mm length (depending on condition of surface & correct application). For optimal performance you need to clean and dry both surfaces where fastener is to be applied, peel each fastener from backing tape & press firmly in place. Allow 5 minutes for adhesive to set before attaching the hook to the loop. Adhesive reaches maximum strength after 24 hours.See the site for more details. Velcro Heavy Duty Stick on Tape

Clothes Repairs and more with Velcro®

Velcro Sew and Stick TapeI recently wrote about the ways I was making use of the new Velcro® products (such as the Sew & Stick Tape for attaching a blackout blind), but it’s also really useful to have certain items in your sewing kit for dressmaking and repairs. I’ve already mentioned the Hem Fix Kit, which is ideal for instant repairs, but Sew on Tape (plus Anti Snag Sew On Tape) and Iron on Tape are also great for use at home when you don’t need an instant fix.

Velcro Sew On TapeThe Velcro® Sew on Tape is ideal for many Home Furnishing and Dressmaking tasks. It can be used for hand or machine sewing of soft furnishings, garments and more round the home.  Each pack contains 20 mm x 1 metre and is very long lasting and durable.

Velcro Anti Snag Sew on TapeFor fine and delicate materials prone to snagging use the Velcro® Anti Snag Sew On Tape. Each pack contains 20mm x 3 metres ( 1.5 metres closure ).

Velcro Iron on TapeWant to make it even easier? For those who don’t want to (or can’t) sew… try the Velcro® Iron on Tape which is great for non-sew applications. Ideal for repairing and making clothes - use it instead of Buttons & Zips. Each pack contains 16mm x 1 metre.  Need help with your craft projects too?

Find out tomorrow how Velcro® can come to the rescue again!

The many uses of Velcro® products

With so many Velcro® products now added to our site I wanted to go through the many different uses over the next week. My previous article ‘The Velcro Line Up’ mentioned the marvelous Hem Fix Kit but I wanted to talk about how to get through your household ‘to do’ lists with the help of these products.Velcro Sew & Stick Tape

Velcro Sew and Stick TapeI may as well start with myself… I’ve managed to tick a few ‘to do’ boxes with some free time over Christmas and I’ve used Velcro® to help me… how? Attaching blackout fabric to the window in my little one’s bedroom – easy when you know how but even easier when you know about Velcro® Sew & Stick Tape. Simply sew the loop tape to your fabric and stick the hook tape onto the hard surface, in this instance the window frame, and hey presto, you’re done!...  easy to sew and easy to launder. Fed up with never having a pen to hand when on the phone, I’ve now fixed a pen onto the side of the phone using Velcro® Stick On Coins… never again should I be scrambling about for a pen for messages (so long as everyone else puts it back there!)Velcro Tidy Cables

The new Velcro® ‘Tidy Cables’ Kit helps with the ‘Cable Spaghetti’ problem that most of us have. You can use it to bundle, secure and tidy messy wires and cables. For really bulky cable there is a cut-to-size self-gripping tape and all components are reusable and can be opened and closed 1000s of times. Each pack contains:
•    Self Gripping Tape Black 30mm x 1m
•    Adjustable Ties Black 12mm x 20cm x 3
•    Sticky Back Cable Wrap Strips White 60mm x 10cm x 2
•    Removable Adhesive Cable Clips Opaque Small x 8

Also part of the Cable Management Range are Velcro® Coloured Adjustable Ties. They are designed to keep hazardous wires behind PC's & TV's etc under control & away from mischievous hands. Very simple – just wrap & press to secure.

Now there’s no excuse to start ticking off your ‘to do’ lists – more on this later in the week.

The Velcro® Line Up…

Velcro Hem FixHousehold jobs are called chores for a reason! But if you can find the correct products to help, you also find that these tasks become a doddle. Many such products often have one thing in common – Velcro®. It has been around for a long time, with the invention of the ‘hook-and-loop’ fastener in 1941, being named Velcro® from a combination of the French words velours (or velour) and crochet (or hook). The Velcro brand name is now used to describe all similar products. The hook side is covered in tiny hooks which catch the loops on the other side and so holding the pieces together.

Hem FixSeemingly so simple, and so many uses, in fact so many that we now have a whole range of Velcro® products.  I’ll be looking into the many uses of Velcro® in future articles, but one of our most popular products in this range is the Hem Fix Kit. (See it in action on trouser hems and shirts by clicking on the images.)

Hem Fix for Shirt RepairNot everyone thinks of Velcro® being used for tasks such as fixing a hem, but this really useful repair kit is ideal to keep in the handbag / briefcase for those times when you wish you had an instant repair, such as at work, on a night out or an important function. Like other Velcro® products, it’s also extremely useful around the home being ideal for clothing, soft furnishings & craft projects.
It’s strong, reliable, quick and easy to use and each pack contains 20 soft & flexible sticky strips (19mm x 50mm). This is a very reliable product, which won’t let you (or your hem!) down.

Keep an eye on future articles to see the many other products in the Velcro®  line up!

Christmas Decorations: The When, the Why and the How!

There’s no better way to get excited about Christmas than starting the time-honoured tradition of decorating your home… and I don’t just mean the kids, I know that once I’ve decorated my house it’s officially Christmas… but like many others I never really know when I should start.

People used to decorate their homes on Christmas Eve, but these days the tradition of 12 days before and 12 days after is still popular with many. There are many superstitions regarding Christmas Decorations some of which have been retained (we still hang mistletoe in the belief that luck favours those who kiss under it and goes against those who avoid it.) Nevertheless some people feel that decorating is rather a pointless task, but lets remember that not only does this time-honoured tradition go back to pre-Christian times… it also makes us feel excited about forthcoming festivities (even for those who make a fuss about it but still do it!)

Perhaps for those people I can offer some time saving tips on how to decorate your home and still have time to get a bit of gift-wrapping done too! Decorating the tree is the obvious decoration to start with – but the way you put away your tree decorations is an important part to making this easy. Don’t just throw your lights and baubles into a carrier bag when taking them down (you know who you are!) – make life easier by untangling lights and boxing your tinsel and baubles separately. Top tips for decorating include the following:

  • Have a theme, for example stick to one colour

  • For tree decorations think about proportion – put larger decorations at the bottom and smaller ones at the top of the tree. The same applies to your other decorations too

  • Hang Christmas cards down door and window frames for a quick and easy way to add some colour – not only is this a cheap way to decorate rooms, it also adds a personal element to your decorations. Make this even easier with Christmas Card Hangers such as Velcro® Hanging Card Kit

  • Tinsel and beads don’t need to be kept to the tree – attach them to banisters and picture frames with Velcro® Christmas Decoration Clips
