Is Summer finally here?

I know we can get a bit carried away sometimes when the weather suddently perks up and we all think it's Summer, but who can blame us with our recent weather? Going green? Go camping!

In the spirit of my previous ‘green’ articles I wanted to include in this topic one of the most important and enjoyable activities in peoples lives… holidays! The obvious choice would be the camping holiday and with numbers of people camping (and the age dropping) it seems many people have already made this choice.  Apparently the average age of campers has dropped dramatically – averaging previously around 60 and now in the 40s… why? Well partly because more families want to enjoy a ‘green’ holiday and enjoy the benefits of the Countryside right on their doorstep, after all we are known for our Great British Countryside and with so much to enjoy the possibilities are endless for camping destinations in this country!

This growing trend of greener family holidays also has the added benefit of more money being spent in local, rural communities. Check out The Caravan Club website for inspiration and where to go. To kick-start your 2010 adventures check out this article for inspiration of what to take with you to avoid problems with moths, storage and keeping everything clean and tidy!

Moths - they can be a problem when at home, but if you want to avoid them when travelling make sure you protect your clothing with products such as Clothes Moth Traps are designed to be hung in clothing storage areas, are simple to assemble and installed in seconds. For every new caravan or motorhome owner (and indeed even for the most experienced owner) it can be challenging making the best use of the space available and keeping everything clean. Problems of transporting and storing clothes can all be solved with the right products.

To make the most use of your wardrobe space you should make sure you take a Space Saving Hanger Bar - you can hang six hangers from it either vertically, which is the way it is mostly used for shirts or trousers, or horizontally to hang six pairs of trousers or shirts.

Keeping a small space clean is essential especially when travelling – roller brushes are ideal for keeping clothing, seats & upholstery clean (fantastic if travelling with pets and to keep your clothes pet hair free!) Update from yesterday - an additional benefit to Toastabags for all you coeliacs!

Being such a fan of this product I mentioned it to my sister, who told me she had recently started using them herself but for a different reason. How to get your child to eat breakfast (it’s all in the bag!)

Getting your kids to eat something that’s good for them can be tricky. Indeed getting them to eat anything at all can be difficult. It’s bad enough when they are still trying out new tastes, but once they’re at school and getting their own ideas about when and what they should eat it’s even worse. They are renowned for snacking, so what better way to get something nutritious in them by taking advantage of this.

In fact, with this Toastabag recipe you may even be able to get them to eat something before they leave the house for school. Peanut Butter & Banana Back To School Sandwich Recipe

What ingredients you will need:

Butter (about a teaspoon)
Banana (sliced)
Smooth Peanut Butter
2 thin slices of bread

You don’t have to limit yourself to either white or brown bread – why not get the best of both by mixing them and have one of each? Start by melting the butter in a pan, add the banana and fry until all the banana is golden brown. If your kid insists(!) remove the crusts and get them involved by pressing down with the stamps onto the bread to imprint with the Wallace & Gromit pictures.

Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread, followed by the golden banana and press down firmly on the sandwich before putting into the Toastabag. Once in your toaster it should take around 3 minutes depending on the individual toaster. Allow to cool.

Brilliant for kids to have for a quick breakfast or after school snack perhaps. Very nutritious too - the banana is full of potassium, so giving them lots of energy to keep them going long after breakfast. It will get some fruit in them, plus the peanut butter provides some fibre, vitamins and minerals.

A taste of Asia from your Toastabag!

Following on from my earlier write up about the brilliant Toastabags, I’ve got another fantastic recipe brought to you by Georgie and Tracey, authors of The Jewish Princess Cookbook. Like them you too can make use of this Dragons’ Den featured product which is ideal for busy people needing quick food! They are super efficient and leave no mess… not even crumbs in your toaster!

Very economical because they can be used over and over again (the Original Toastabag can be reused up to 300 times and the Gold and Wallace & Gromit Toastabags can be reused 100 times), plus being so easy means you can get the whole family involved. For a taste of Italy see my previous article which went through how to make an Italian Stuff-a-Your-Face Sandwich, but if it’s a taste of Asia you want try this delicious Asian Chicken Sandwich.

What ingredients you will need:

Chicken (ready cooked)
Mayonnaise
Ginger (grated)
Chili (diced)
Spring Onion (chopped)
Salt & Black Pepper
2 thin slices of bread

Don’t limit yourself to either white or brown bread – why not get the best of both by mixing them and have one of each? The great thing about these sandwiches is that you can use quantities according to your tastes, so adapt the ingredients if needed – if you love spicy food use a generous amount of chili and spring onion for example. You can use about half a chicken breast per sandwich, which would give you a generous portion. Mix in a bowl the chopped chicken, chili (remember don’t use too much if you don’t want it too spicy), finely chopped spring onion, grated ginger, some salt & pepper to taste and enough mayonnaise to coat the mixture. Press firmly down on the sandwich before putting into the Toastabag and once in your toaster it should take around 3 minutes depending on the individual toaster. Allow to cool and enjoy.
